Footscray beats Williamstown to make lacrosse grand final

Footscray is heading to the Lacrosse Victoria men’s state league
grand final after shocking Williamstown 16-8 in an all-west preliminary
final at Treyvaud Memorial Reserve on Saturday.

The Scray was the underdog entering the finals in fourth, while
the Fearons were widely tipped to make it back-to-back premierships –
but there is a new order in western suburbs lacrosse after a stunning
result.

Jack Mooney was the star of the show for the Scray with five goals
and two assists to help his side set up a grand final date with Surrey
Park at Lakeside Stadium in Surrey Park on Saturday from 3.15pm.

In the women’s state league, it will be Footscray and Newport battling it out in the grand final.

The Porters won their way through to the decider with a 13-4 mauling of Williamstown at Caulfield Park on Sunday.

Hayley Sofarnos tucked away six goals for the Porters.

In men’s division 1, Williamstown was given some reason to smile,
defeating Altona 19-7 in the grand final at Treyvaud Memorial Reserve.
