SKYHigh campaign steps up a notch

A GROUP pushing for a new high school for the Yarraville area is stepping up its campaign ahead of next year’s state election.

At its annual meeting last week, SKYHigh outlined measures to boost community and government support for a high school serving Seddon, Kingsville and Yarraville.

New president Melissa Horne said one of the events planned for the next school holidays was a Monopoly game.

“Our game will coincide with the start of the state government’s budget planning process,” she said. “We hope to pass ‘Go’ and collect the vital funding that the inner-west’s school community urgently needs.”

Outgoing president Janine Lloyd said at least 3000 people had taken part in SKYHigh events in the 10 years since the working group was formed.

“With 78 per cent of the 2000 primary school students in the local area going on to attend a public high school, the existing high schools in the inner west will be at capacity in the next five years,” she said.
