Fearons back on their lacrosse perch

WILLIAMSTOWN would not be denied access to the top spot in the Lacrosse Victoria men’s state league for long.

The Fearons spent a mere seven days away from their perch and were back on top again after results went their way on Saturday. The Fearons returned to their best with an 18-2 home win over Eltham and were gifted first place after Malvern’s 9-4 slip-up to Surrey Park.

Aaron Lawman and Mathew Price bagged hat-tricks and Ben Newman, Ashley Wilkinson and Kyle Morlang scored doubles as the Fearons scored at will. They will be defending the table-topping tag once more against MCC on Saturday.

Footscray softened MCC up with a 23-9 pounding at Angliss Reserve. Jack Mooney had the hot stick for the Scray with seven goals, all in the second half. The Scray remain on track to play in the finals.

In women’s state league, Newport, inspired by five goals from Lyndsey Paton, kept its buffer at the top of the ladder with an 11-3 win over Footscray.
