THE annual Fair Go Sport! round turned out to be a tough one for Altona in Hockey Victoria premier league.
A round to celebrate diversity and inclusiveness in sport brought a colourful and fun-filled atmosphere to Grant Reserve on Saturday.
The A’s could not put the icing on the cake, losing to visiting Doncaster in the men’s and women’s matches.
Despite scintillating performances from centre-half Bronte Kerley and Hockeyroo Danielle Schubach, the women’s team sunk to a 5-1 loss.
The A’s were not without their chances, but they lacked killer instinct, with their lone goal coming late from the stick of Anisha Kidd.
“While the blow-out in the score-line was disappointing, I was very impressed with Bronte Kerley’s match,” A’s coach Marc Richardson said.
The men’s side was equally wasteful in attack, dominating the opening 15 minutes without scoring.
Once Doncaster broke through for its first goal, there would be no stopping the visitors marching to a 4-2 win.
“For our standard of play to drop so much from the start of the match to the end was extremely disappointing,” A’s coach Ben Guy said.
Meanwhile, Footscray claimed a share of the spoils in the men’s premier league with a 1-1 draw with Hawthorn. In the WPL, Footscray was beaten 4-1 by Hawthorn.
