Grant helps Footscray adults to learn locally

ADULT education in the Footscray area has been given the welcome boost of a $45,171 grant to Westgate Community Initiatives Group for its ‘learn local’ program.

The organisation is one of 53 state- wide to share in $2.63 million from the state government to better meet adult education skills and training.

The grant will help WCIG offer new courses and expand services, including online and self-paced learning.

Western suburbs MP Andrew Elsbury, pictured with staff, said Victoria was increasingly in need of a workforce with higher skill levels and qualifications “to supply the skills our knowledge-based economy will need”.

Offering vocational, language, literacy and numeracy and work-skill courses, Victoria’s 300 Learn Local organisations provide education and training to more than 95,000 people every year.
