Maribyrnong council launches new graffiti blitz

A GRAFFITI blitz is under way to tackle the rise in illegal graffiti on public and private property in Maribyrnong.

Under the three-month program, the council will send contractors onto private properties to remove illegal graffiti as a free, one-off service.

Mayor Catherine Cumming said there were a number of unappealing graffiti attacks defacing property and making the municipality less attractive.

The council is working with police and the Department of Justice on a program to report and remove illegal graffiti and help traders and property owners deal with the costly issue.

Graffiti removal is the responsibility of the property owner, but the council offers free graffiti removal kits to residents. The community is being urged to report illegal graffiti to the council or police as soon as it appears.

Report graffiti on 9688 0200, email@maribyrnong.vic.gov.au or via Maribyrnong council’s mobile phone app.
