FOOTSCRAY Primary School pupils said farewell to their much-loved toys after donating them to refugee children in their community.
The children also wrote special messages of hope and welcome to the refugee children, many of whom have escaped violence and persecution in their homeland.
Grade 2 student Poppy wrote: “I hope you like the things I have given you. I’m sorry you have to sail across the sea and leave home. I hope you play with them. I have loved them with all my heart but now it’s time to give them away”.
The toy drive was arranged by Melanie Block, of the Western Regional Health Centre in conjunction with Footscray Primary junior school council members.
