A FLEET of 10 new waste and recycling trucks has taken to Maribyrnong streets as Remondis Australia begins work as the council’s waste contractor.
Bin collection days and services will remain the same but the council hopes the new contractor will help improve recycling rates.
Council infrastructure and engineering director Ian Butterworth said there might be changes to bin collection times.
The council has signed a seven-year deal with the company with an option to extend by a further three years. The trucks are larger and have improved technology, including a feature that closes bin lids on their return to the nature strip or footpath.
Mr Butterworth expects some teething troubles but hopes they will be short-lived.
“If by some chance your neighbour’s bins are collected and yours are missed, please call our customer service people,” he said.
