ALTONA Gators could only cringe after a 107-77 loss to Melbourne University Black Angels in the Big V basketball men’s division 1 at the Melbourne University Sports Complex on Saturday night.
The Gators were blown out of a water in an embarrassing first half, which rendered the second half as merely junk time.
The Gators added some respectability by winning the last quarter, thanks largely to John Wilkinson’s 27 points. Daniel Ellul added 14 and Joey Mausar scored 13.
The Gators entertain top side Whittlesea Pacers (16-2) at the Altona Sports Centre on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the Altona Lady Gators started well but lost 84-71 to Mildura Heat in the Big V women’s division 1 at home on Sunday.
The Gators raced to an 11-point lead at quarter-time, but the visitors took over in the second period and maintained control. `
Alysha Carden-David was the standout with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while there were double doubles for Jayne-Maree Sant (17 points and 10 rebounds) and Katrina Vogelezang (14 points and 11 rebounds). They host Whittlesea Pacers at the Swamp on Saturday.
