MORE than 200 migrants and refugees living in the west came together at Whitten Oval last week for the CALDplay Football Carnival.
Participants from Werribee and St Albans AMES (Adult Multicultural Education Services) and the Refugee VCAL class of Wyndham Community and Education Centre combined for a match against Footscray AMES, Victoria University Sunshine and the Yarraville community.
AMES chief executive Cath Scarth said the carnival and six-week skills program leading up to it were great for getting people involved in communities.
“This program is giving new arrivals to Australia an insight into, and experience of, AFL,” she said.
