Maritime bounty docks at Seaworks

Seaworks at Williamstown is the new home of Victoria’s largest maritime library collection after receiving 3700 books and 30,000 photographs from Victoria’s National Trust.

Seaworks executive officer Therese Pritchard says the items have been accumulated by the trust over many years and previously kept at the Polly Woodside site.

“When the development of the site began, the library was moved into storage, approximately seven years ago,” she said.

The collection was offered to the Maritime Museum of Victoria, of which Seaworks is a member. Ms Pritchard said the library would be open to the public and the photos would help people researching family history and immigration.

“It is hoped that over the years the library will continue to grow and become a focal point of maritime research, not only for Victoria but the rest of Australia,” she said.
