Hockey Victoria: Camberwell outclasses  Altona in 4-0 drubbing

ALTONA was on the back foot for the best part of 70 minutes in a 4-0 thrashing from Camberwell in the Hockey Victoria premier league on Saturday.

The Seagulls could not get their sticks on the ball in the first half as Camberwell dominated possession with superior pace and skill.

Two penalty corner conversions from Camberwell left the Seagulls shell-shocked and trailing 2-0 at half-time.

The Seagulls had more possession in the second half and appeared more dangerous in attack, but every shot they attempted was repelled by Australian international goalkeeper George Bazeley.

Camberwell added to the damage through a penalty stroke and a coast-to-coast goal.

“We were given a lesson by a very good side today, highlighting a number of areas for us to improve,’’ Seagulls coach Ben Guy said.

Improvement did come for the Seagulls in part two of the weekend’s double-header.

They managed a 2-2 draw with Essendon at home on Sunday after goals to Patrick Phillips and Chris Porter.

Footscray had back-to-back losses at the weekend, losing to Waverley and Mentone with 3-2 scorelines.

In women’s premier league, Altona sits second-last after consecutive losses at the weekend.

The Seagulls lost in heartbreaking fashion, 4-3 to Camberwell on Saturday, and seemingly never recovered as they were belted 5-1 at home by Essendon on Sunday.

Footscray was disappointing, losing 3-1 to Mentone and drawing 2-2 with Waverley.
