Walk Safely to School Day: Kingsville pupils put best foot forward

KINGSVILLE Primary School students put their best foot forward on Friday as part of national Walk Safely to School Day.

The event encourages healthier living by beginning and ending the day with exercise.

Parent Mike Lagastes says he tries to walk or ride to school with his son Jasper whenever possible. The 10-minute walk from West Footscray is a good chance to spend time together and encourages Jasper, a prep pupil, to stay active. “It is actually quicker than driving because of the traffic and getting a park around here can be quite difficult,” Mr Lagastes said.

“I also personally think it is better to get out and be active in the morning rather than sitting in a car. It’s better for the community and the environment.”

Jasper said riding was his favourite way of getting to school, followed by walking.
