WRFL: Eagles bite back after early thrashing

YARRAVILLE-SEDDON was blown away in the first half of a 46-point loss to St Albans in the Western Region Football League division 1 on Saturday.

The Eagles found themselves 55 points down at the main break but can take a positive out of their second half fight, limiting the damage on the scoreboard.

Shane Barry, Michael West and Nick Avery gave their all for the Eagles, but their side ran into a more accomplished Saints outfit, who have signalled they could be knocking on the door of the finals this winter.

Altona Vikings stunned with the ease of their dismantling of Port Melbourne Colts at Grant Reserve.

The Vikings had a sting in their tail a week after a loss to Deer Park, their first defeat of the season, and took their anger out on the Colts in a 126-point mauling. The signs were ominous early as the Vikings built a 46-to-zip lead by quarter-time.

Jayden Post booted six goals for the Vikings, while Steven Kennedy continued his rip-roaring start to the season with best-on-ground honours.

In division 2, Laverton Magpies took a step forward in recent weeks, but took two steps back in a 197-point loss to Parkside at Laverton Park.

The bottom-of-the table Magpies are still searching for that elusive first win.

Fabiano Mastropasqua booted six majors in the Parkside goal feast.
