Maribyrnong councillor Sarah Carter will be locked up in the Old Melbourne Gaol on May 31 for Whitelion Bail Out, raising money for at-risk youths. Participants need to raise $1000 as “bail” during the event to help support youth involved in the justice system.
Sacked worker gets job back
A sacked Linfox worker employed under the company’s indigenous program has been reinstated. Werribee South’s Michael Hogan, a picker and packer at the company’s Laverton warehouse, was the only National Union of Workers member of four employees laid off prior to their period of employment reaching six months.
Coin for council campaign
Hobsons Bay ratepayers are expected to chip in $10,000 for a campaign to have local government recognised in the constitution at an election-day referendum on September 14.
Literary program launched
The Williamstown Literary Festival program launched last Friday features Shaun Micallef, Meshel Laurie, Andy Griffiths, Dave O’Neil, Charlie Pickering, Catherine Deveny, Chris Wilson and Rebecca Barnard. A mobile street health van visits Highpoint shopping centre at 9.30am-4.30pm, Thursday to Saturday, with free general checks and advice on staying healthy.

An article, ‘Gotta hand it to the kids’, in last week’s Weekly stated a world record attempt was made by children at Kids Matter Family Day Care. Hobsons Bay Council’s Family Day Care Service made the attempt.
