Re Church, council miffed by levy (Weekly, May 8)
Fair enough, too [that churches will be among properties charged a state government fire services levy]. If you look at churches, they have prime real estate and sell it at a huge profit. The Catholic Church sold the old Australian Catholic University building in Ascot Vale to Scientologists for a huge profit. The old Mercy Hospital in East Melbourne is now a development site. Huge profit. All churches around the world have prime land. They should be taxed on property.
Look at the huge fees they charge for schools on top of government funding. They [churches] are a business and they help in the community, but I’m sure they are always running at a huge profit.

Catherine Deveny is so irrelevant that she has to say ridiculous things to get any attention, no matter who she offends.
