ALTONA Roosters are the defending Victorian Rugby League first grade premiers, but that’s not guaranteed a mass of state representatives.
Only two of their players, Brad Potae and Ben James, were included in the Victorian squad for the affiliated state senior men’s championships.
In a surprise, the North West Wolves (eight), Waverley Panthers (five), Sunbury Tigers (three) and Werribee Bears (thee) all had more representatives than the Roosters.
It’s a different story in the Victorian women’s tag team with four Roosters named in the squad, including Anne French, Rachel Hita, Awhina Purnell and Precilla Rahu.
Meanwhile, the Altona Roosters opened the new first grade season on Sunday with a 30-26 win over the Doveton Steelers.
