Laverton North fire: Crews still at site

UPDATE: Fire crews are monitoring the scene of a massive overnight blaze at a Laverton North car-wrecking yard to make sure it doesn’t reignite.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade investigators are probing the cause of the fire that erupted on Wednesday evening at 5.45 pm.

An MFB spokesman said the blaze began at a yard shed on Plummer Road, in Laverton North’s industrial precinct, and took more than a dozen fire crews about 45 minutes to bring under control.

He believe the fire was caused while workers were removing LPG cyclinders at the site.

Everyone at the site was instructed to evacuate the premises.

The fire prompted the MFB to issue a warning to residents in the surrounding Laverton area to keep their doors and windows closed.
