Golf Victoria: Kooringal gives Peninsula a lesson

KOORINGAL has given new boys Peninsula an unruly welcome to life in the Golf Victoria men’s division 3 pennant.

Peninsula, fourth division champions last season, experience the new tier for the first time since promotion and quickly found out how competitive the level is.

They put up a good fight in the season opener, but it was Kooringal’s day, with a tight 4-3 victory at the Long Island Country Club on Sunday.

Adam Saliba, Dion Clemmens, Tim Mago and Gary Morris were victorious for Kooringal.

In men’s division 4, Medway is looking to improve on its disappointing third-last finish last season.

They started off on the right note with a nail-biting 4-3 win over newly-promoted Goonawarra in the opening round at Heidelberg Golf Club.

Nick Tuddenham, Corey Nixon, Adam Tsiamis and Brendan Jameson made winning starts for Maidstone.

In women’s division 4, Medway has shot to the top of the ladder, following a clean sweep of Waverley.

Wendy Totenham, Stephanie Bunque, Vicki Carnie, Steph Theodore, Kallista Do, Jenny Cooper and Sue Heffernan contributed to the 7-0 whitewash.

It was not such a happy day for Kooringal, who lost 5-2 to Keysborough. Elle Hu and Tonia Scott were the only winners on opening day.
