THE Victorian Rugby League will help the devastated Altona Roosters get back on the field this season after fire ripped through their clubrooms at Loft Reserve this month.
VRL general manager Brent Silva said the league would help the defending first grade champions with resources and fundraising.
“We’d be able to try and access training equipment to keep them going . . . uniforms and those sort of things,” he said. “We’d also be able to help them with any sort of application they make to local or state government regarding emergency funding — help them through the process.”
The Roosters could also gain invaluable assistance from the Melbourne Storm.
Silva held preliminary discussions with Storm chief executive officer Ron Gauci about a potential fundraiser at one of the Storm’s coming home games.
“I’ve already spoken to the CEO of Melbourne Storm today about their support and he was happy to investigate fundraising opportunities to assist the club,” Silva said. “We haven’t worked out what they will be yet, but the intent is to help the club.”
