A’s control their path to premier division finals

ALTONA is locked in a tense four-way battle for two vacancies in the Bowls Victoria premier division finals.

The third-placed A’s are in the box seat with 173 points after beating arch-rivals Werribee 79-64 at Civic Parade last weekend.

But, there’s no margin for error, with Clayton (172), Brighton (165) and Bundoora (161) ready to take advantage of any slip-ups in Saturday’s final round.

At least the A’s control their own destiny. They will seal a finals berth with a win over Essendon.

Should they lose, the A’s will have to rely on results from other greens to go their way, something they will be desperate to avoid.

The A’s were made to work hard for victory over their fierce western rival, Werribee.

They picked up three of four rinks, but two were tight. David Zitter (30-14) beat up on his old club, which was relegated as a result of the loss. Brenton Coad (17-16) and Brad Peck (20-17) had narrow wins. — Lance Jenkinson
