Dance Habit starts young at West Footscray school

Dance Habit director Megan Sayer-Roberts, believes experiencing the joy of dance is for everyone, regardless of age, background or goals.

“We’re no ordinary dance school. We embrace everyone who wants to discover what dance is about and there’s no expectation on students to look, dress or behave in a certain way. Dancing is freedom, changing lives and making friendships with people who love the art.”

The Dance Habit team takes a holistic approach. “Our dance teaching is done by focusing on the process, not the outcome. It’s really exciting to watch the development of students, young and old.”

Megan caught the dance bug at age three, graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor in Performing Arts (Dance) and launched Dance Habit in October 2011.

The school has more than 150 students aged three to 65, taking ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, contemporary, Pilates, Latin and cardio classes.

“Statistics show that the number of children choosing dance as their extra-curricular activity is steadily increasing. What’s really exciting is the numbers of mums and dads getting on board,” said Megan.

“And our boys-only classes are a huge hit.”
