WDCA: West Newport gallops to 155-run victory over neighbour

WEST Newport has romped to a 155-run win over neighbours Newport-Digman in the Williamstown and District Cricket Association A1 turf.

Wests set out in search of a 183 target and did it with ease to finish on 338 off 94 overs.

The commanding victory was not enough for the reigning champions to hold on to top spot.

Williamstown Imperials took the points over Grand United in a match that could have a massive impact on the outcome of the top four.

The Imps set up their win on day one, posting 8-298 on the back of 98 to Jack Haines.

The Gorillas had little to beat their chests about, all out for 216.

Williamstown Colts kept touch with the top four with a first innings win over cellar dweller Gellibrand.

In B1 turf, Williamstown Congs triumphed over rivals St John’s by 43 runs.

The Congs defended their 204 stoutly, bowling out St John’s for 161.
