Wearable message says no to violence

YOUNG Maribyrnong men have thrown their support behind a campaign to keep women safe.

Residents including James Schwencke, 20, and Alexander Mercier, 15 (pictured), have been working on screen-printed T-shirts for White Ribbon Day with statements highlighting that one in three women in Australia who has been in a relationship has experienced violence by a partner.

The T-shirts are part of a T-shirt Tour Exhibition opening in Footscray today.

Mayor Catherine Cumming says the exhibition also shows a photographic display of a T-shirt bearing the anti-violence message which has travelled with White Ribbon Day volunteer ambassador Christopher Lynch to worldwide landmarks.

Visitors can also hear White Ribbon Day-inspired songs by Raw Elements — young men from the Maribyrnong Youth Service hip-hop program.

The T-shirt Tour expo is at Splash Gallery, Phoenix Youth Centre, 72 Buckley Street, Footscray.
