Community effort

It’s been two years in the making but Wyndham residents have welcomed the opening of maternity and neonatal services at Werribee Mercy Hospital.

The state-of-the-art birthing unit — in one of Victoria’s fastest-growing regions — includes 16 new special-care nursery cots, a 24-bed maternity unit and refurbished delivery rooms.

Developer Asset1 has pledged a proportion of every land sale at its nearby Tarneit estate, The Heartlands, to the hospital — a total of more than $240,000.

‘‘We’re delighted to be associated with Werribee Mercy Hospital and are forever grateful for the work they do in the local community,’’ Asset1 sales director Mark Adams said.

‘‘As developers of a local land estate we feel it’s incredibly important to give back to local services which support the growing community, which is why we donate $300 from every block sold at The Heartlands to the hospital.

‘‘Wyndham is witnessing an influx of families and young professionals searching for their dream home away from Melbourne’s hustle and bustle, but without foregoing modern conveniences.’’

Mr Adams said Wyndham was quickly becoming the place to build a dream house and raise a family – and only 30 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD.

‘‘For many, being in the thick of the city is too claustrophobic. Parents often want the reassurance that their children can go and explore with friends right in the comfort of their own community.’’

He said homebuyers were becoming more selective, wanting shops, schools and health services nearby, something The Heartlands estate offered.

‘‘The Heartlands community accommodates all the family needs while being around the corner from wetlands and having exclusive residents-only access to the Club Heartlands health centre.’’
