Liston in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League mix

LISTON Tennis Club will be a part of the inaugural Asia-Pacific Tennis League.

It will consist of five conferences (SA, WA, Vic, NSW/ACT and Queensland), made up of six teams in each state.

All up, 28 men’s and 28 women’s teams will be competing for their respective conferences next month, with the winners of each conference to move on to the ATL playoffs at Melbourne Park in the second week of the Australian Open.

Teams from New Zealand, Asia and the Pacific Islands will be invited to the playoffs to find out which is the best club team in the region.

The ATL will use an innovative scoring system with four-game sets, no-ad scoring and a number of other concepts.

Liston, coached by Dane Nebel and based at Commonwealth Reserve in Williamstown, will be known as the Liston Seagulls.

All teams will have a nickname and will play in team colours. The ATL will hold ‘super rounds’ with all teams playing at the one venue, as opposed to a home-and-away format.

Liston’s super round will be a Friday night on November 16. The first round will be played at Donvale on a Super Sunday five days earlier.

The inaugural Seagulls squad is: Sam Groth, Rubin Statham, James Lemke, Dayne Kelly, Rameez Juniad, Efthimios Efthimiadis, Jackson Clark and Miles Andrew. — Lance Jenkinson
