MORE than 1000 job seekers have lodged applications with Highpoint shopping centre ahead of next week’s launch of the fresh food market and Eco Mall.
A recent employment expo attracted 1100-plus applications for new retailers such as Jasper Coffee, Highpoint Fruit and Vegetable Market and Melbourne Fresh Meats.
The October 18 launch of stage one of the centre’s $300 million redevelopment includes a Woolworths supermarket, 15 fresh food retailers and 20 retail stores.
A fortnight of activities will include cooking demonstrations by well-known Melbourne chefs, food tours, foodie sample bags and entertainment.
Customers have a chance to win groceries for a year, and there will be instant and weekly giveaways.
An extra 600 car spaces will also be available.
Visiting Highpoint for the school holidays last week, Junior Masterchef finalist Lily Simpson conducted a cooking demonstration to get children interested in experimenting in the kitchen. Lily baked up cupcakes and shared her tips on the best way to ice and decorate them.
