The plots thicken in Maribyrnong

MAKE your friends green with envy and help grow the new Maribyrnong Community Garden from the ground up.

The garden features plots available for hire, a communal herb garden and a children’s garden, along with an orchard, glass house, propagation area and compost bays.

There’s also a communal seating area with shade, outdoor kitchen and cob oven.

Mayor John Cumming says the garden should be in full swing by the end of the year.

“The council is delighted to launch the

community garden and recognises the value of such gardens not only as local food producing hubs but as spaces where the community can come together.”

The council spent $34,000 on developing the garden, the Lions Club of Footscray marking its 60th birthday celebrations by chipping in a further $26,200.

The garden, at Hortense Street, Maribyrnong, behind the Raleigh Road Activity Centre, will be run by the Maribyrnong Community Gardening Group as a welcoming space contributing to sustainability and local food production.
