CITY West Falcons took the elite Victorian Netball League championship division to the suburbs on Sunday and it turned into a minor premiership celebration.
The Falcons put on a 60-37 master class performance against Peninsula Waves at the Altona Sports Centre without having to worry about it affecting ladder positions after they had already sealed the No.1 finals ranking with a 56-39 win over Southern Saints on Wednesday night.
The Falcons had to negotiate a tough opening period from the fired-up Saints before assuming total control in the second quarter and running out big winners on the back of a near flawless 41-from-44 shooting performance from Kathleen Knott.
On Sunday, the Falcons turned up the heat to strike a psychological blow over the second-placed Peninsula Waves.
Knott was again at the top of her game, landing 45-of-51 attempts, and forming a lethal attacking partnership with Maggie Lind.
The Falcons will be one of the two teams playing in the major semi-final on July 18.
Local attention will now turn to the VU-Western Lightning, whose destiny will come down to the final night of the season after it
missed its chance to seal a finals berth last Wednesday when it lost 38-35 to Monash University Central.
Beat the Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels tonight and the Lightning will grab fourth spot.
