Yarraville pupils tap into i-learning

THE latest technology is being combined with old-fashioned teaching values at Yarraville Special Developmental School.

Assistant principal Karen Donovan says the school is on a quest to provide a one-to-one learning program with iPads for pupils and staff.

“iPads present personal learning opportunities for our students, and teachers are discovering a range of apps to explore all areas of curriculum and communication.”

The interactive technology opens up possibilities for pupils with special needs, but supplying enough iPads was a challenge.

Ms Donovan said “amazing fund-raising and community efforts” of Inner Wheel of Yarraville and the Rotary clubs of Williamstown and Gellibrand were invaluable.

The groups visited the school last Friday to deliver 10 new iPads.

Inner Wheel president Christine Honeycombe says

the group originally aimed to purchase one $500 iPad for the school but support snowballed and $5000 was raised.
