ALTONA Roosters have continued to run into top form, getting their second win of the season in the Victorian Rugby League senior competition.
The Roosters broke their duck last week and this week were too strong for the Werribee Bears, 20-12.
Roosters president Brandon Taunoa said the boys had started to gain confidence.
“It was pretty tough in the middle, but they kept grinding at it and got the points on the scoreboard.
“It was pretty crappy conditions with the rain and wind, but we played really well. We’re a
new team and just trying to get the structures right.”
Bears coach Grant Paaka said the Roosters adjusted to the conditions better.
“It was quite disappointing to lose. It came down to weather and attitude.
“We didn’t play wet weather league and were 8-0 down after 10 minutes. From there we started trying to win the match, instead of trying to get back into the contest.
“Altona did what they were supposed to do and it got them over the line.”
Paaka said his side showed patches of the form he expected.
“We clawed our way back into the game. But then we passed some unnecessary ball and didn’t adapt to the conditions. The instructions were there and they chanced their arms.
“They didn’t bring their game-day face and it’s pretty hard to pick them up from the sidelines.”
Both teams have the bye this weekend.
“After winning the last two, we’re not sure the break has come at the right time for us,” Taunoa said.
Paaka was happier about time off, saying: “With two weeks off we have a lot to work on and the break comes at a good time.”
