ST MARY’S Primary School pupils, including Kate, 8 (pictured), will put their best pedalling feet forward for National Ride2School Day on March 22.
Co-ordinator Margaret Masseni says the Altona schoolchildren already hold their own walk and ride to school event each month. “Children who live a long way from the school, we encourage them to be driven part of the way and then their parents drop them off and they either walk the rest or scoot the rest, either by themselves or with their parents. On the national days, we have a walking school bus and pick a designated point and certain time and all walk up Pier Street to the school.”
The annual event encourages pupils to get active and ride, walk, scoot or skate to school. More than 140,000 students across Victoria are expected to take part. Details: bicyclenetwork.com.au
