FOUR women have been elected as part of a new-look Hobsons Bay Council, with three sitting councillors dumped.
Newcomers Sandra Wilson and Colleen Gates were elected and incumbents Luba Grigorovitch and Angela Altair were easily returned.
Mayor Tony Briffa was re-elected to Cherry Lake ward with a massive primary vote of 4102 — falling just four votes short of winning on first preferences alone.
His main rival on council, Peter Hemphill, was re-elected to Strand ward, alongside newcomer, ALP member Paul Morgan.
But in a shock, the ALP’s Michael Raffoul and Bill Tehan were defeated along with ex-ALP member John Hogg — effectively wiping out Cr Briffa’s support base.
Mr Tehan posted on Facebook: ‘‘With the departure of three good Crs, God help the City of Hobsons Bay!’’
