A DESPERATE plea has been made to find the owners of a dog rescued from a Williamstown roadside almost six weeks ago.
He was discovered on September 13 in Railway Place and taken to a nearby veterinary clinic.
Dangerously underweight and suffering eye and ear infections, he was picked up by RSPCA inspectors and moved to its Burwood East shelter for urgent treatment.
Inspector Lisa Calleja said at the time of his discovery that the poodle, since nicknamed Silver Fox, was attached to a lead but lying untethered next to a trailer.
He was fitted with a microchip, but authorities have had no success in tracking down his owner.
“He was very sick,” Ms Calleja said.
“Not only was he having trouble breathing, but he was emaciated and having trouble trying to stand. His eyes were mucky and his fur was matted and dirty.”
Ms Calleja said the poodle, which was also battling a serious chest infection and diabetes, was slowly on the mend. “It’s very unusual not to be able to find the owners of a dog fitted with a microchip, but no details were registered on this one.
“We’re just hoping somebody out there recognises him and comes forward.”
