Williamstown’s new $7.8 million library will open to the public on September 20.
The temporary library at the Mechanics Institute will close on September 7.
Between September 7 and 20, library users can visit Hobsons Bay’s four other branches, including Newport.
Architectural firms Sally Draper and Mitsuori designed the new two-storey library, which is ‘‘sympathetic’’ to the iconic Williamstown Town Hall and spans 1400 square metres.
It includes a family and local history research centre, wireless internet space and a cafe, with space for up to 35,000 items.
Sally Draper’s previous projects include Maribyrnong Council’s $16million aquatic centre and the $1.1 million Newport fire station.
