London 2012: Jarry steps up but Opals fall to US

FORMER Altona Gators star Rachel Jarry played a key role in the Australian Opals’ semi-final loss to Team USA at the London Olympics overnight.

Jarry rewarded with extra minutes in the second half following a facial injury to starting small forward Jenni Screen. She finished with five points, five assists and six rebounds.

The Australians looked like winners at half time, before star Liz Cambage was shut out in the second half. The USA went on to win 86-73 and set-up a gold-medal clash with France.

Opals captain Lauren Jackson led the way in the semi-final with 14 points and 17 rebounds.

The Opals will play Russia for the bronze medal on Sunday morning at 2am.
