POLICE are treating as suspicious a fire that damaged 20 discarded car bodies and sent plumes of smoke across Melbourne’s Western Ring Road early this morning.
It took about 20 firefighters 30 minutes to control the blaze at a car wreckers in Holcourt Road, Laverton North, after they were called to the scene about 1.50am.
An MFB spokesman said the fire spread to about 20 car wrecks.
“There was a lot of combustible material, such as oil and car seats, so there was a fair bit of smoke and that went across the Western Ring Road,” he said.
A police spokeswoman said the fire was being treated as suspicious.
