Jury finds Haddara guilty of shooting cousin

A member of the Haddara family has been convicted of mistakenly shooting his cousin when he thought he was firing shots at a member of the rival Chaouk family.

After four days of deliberations, a jury on Sunday found Waleed ‘Wally’ Haddara, 28, of Altona North, guilty of intentionally causing serious injury to his cousin Sabet ‘Sam’ Haddara, when he shot him on June 6, 2010.

The jury also convicted him of reckless conduct endangering life regarding Antonio Sawan, who was sitting beside Sabet Haddara when he was shot. Justice Stephen Kaye will sentence Haddara at a later date.
