A WILLIAMSTOWN armed robbery victim has spoken of her terror after being held up in broad daylight.
Victoria Chan, 19, was about to close a small Ferguson Street gift store when a man armed with a spanner or wrench and his blonde female accomplice entered about 4.30pm on June 9.
They told her to “get on the ground’ and she immediately dropped to the floor.
“When they first came in I was kind of in a bit of disbelief,” Ms Chan said.
“I couldn’t believe it was happening, especially in an area like Williamstown.
“They asked me where the money was and I pointed to the counter.”
Ms Chan said the woman saw her handbag and stuffed the cash register drawer into it.
But then the situation worsened.
“The man said, ‘Where’s the rest of the money,’ and I said, ‘I swear there isn’t any more’. I was terrified when the man didn’t believe me that there was no more money.”
Senior Constable Shane Stevens, of the Altona North Embona armed robbery taskforce, said Ms Chan may have been saved from potential physical harm when the robbers started arguing between themselves.
“The male has said, ‘Where’s the rest of it’, and he’s pretty adamant that there’s more.
“The female’s become a bit hesitant. They’ve argued for a few seconds and then she’s said, ‘Let’s get out of here’.”
Video footage released by police last week showed the pair standing outside the store for about 10 minutes before entering.
“I think they’ve sussed out the place beforehand and they’ve chosen a shop where there’s a girl working alone.”
The man is described as Caucasian, in his 30s, 180centimetres tall and of medium-to-solid build.
He wore a distinctive big jacket and gloves and covered his face with his clothing.
The woman, also Caucasian, is described as having blonde hair, 165centimetres and of medium build.
She wore a beanie, hooded top, jeans and also had her face covered.
