Altona hosts Finnish Easter Games

SATU Kirk and Veijo Koponen [pictured] are preparing for a fun-filled weekend when the Finnish Society of Melbourne hosts the Easter Games in Altona.

Ms Kirk said a highlight was the art exhibition, featuring local artists with a Finnish connection.

It opens in Pier Street’s Finnish Hall at noon on Friday. Finnish folk-dance group Mallusjoki will perform from 5pm. Saturday’s events start at 10am with a full day of sports at JK Grant Reserve.

Sunday’s highlight is the Friendly World Cup competition of molkky – a centuries-old tossing game called ‘klop’ in English.

A Finnish-language church service will be held at the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre from 8am on Good Friday. Details: suomipaivat.com.au
