Altona North rounded out the Football Federation Victoria men’s state league 5 season in fine style with a 9-1 thumping of Melbourne Lions.
North controlled the game from start to finish, were 5-0 up at half-time and continued their assault in the second half, with goals coming from Robert Barbieri (2), Josh Davies (2), Jerobeam Damons, Steven Irish, Andrew Sant, Josh Bondin and even retiring goalkeeper Chris Thring.
It was a fitting way to send off coach Robert Casha, who announced after the game that he would be leaving the club after 24 years as a player and coach.
A consummate club man, Casha will be a big gap to fill next season, but the club is in good shape, with a young side dedicated to playing good football.
The reserves rounded out an excellent campaign with an 8-5 victory, coming from 5-3 down to finish second, missing out on the league title by a single point. Goals came from Jason Andrades (4), Max Rollo (2), Brendan Zerafa and Dragan Trifkovic.
