A giant board game unveiled on Monday is the latest volley in the fight for a local high school in the Yarraville area.
Scores of children turned out to play on the SKYHigh ‘Schoolopoly’ board, designed to highlight the need for a school to cater for a booming school-aged population in Seddon, Kingsville and Yarraville.
The extra-large localised version of Monopoly is being used to send a message to the state government as it starts planning projects to be funded in next year’s budget.
SKYHigh president Melissa Horne said the group now had about 3000 members pushing for the school, with surrounding schools nearing capacity.
She has been meeting existing high schools in the area to work towards a united voice in the group’s push.
“Unfortunately, we have written to the Premier and the Minister for Education, asking for a meeting and we haven’t heard back.”
