WNBA title joy for Williamstown’s Rachel Jarry

Williamstown-raised Rachel Jarry has capped a fairytale WNBA rookie season with a title at the Minnesota Lynx.

Jarry roared with delight as Lynx owner Glen Taylor and coach Cheryl Reeve hoisted the trophy.

Jarry, 21, a former Altona Gators junior, was drafted to the WNBA by the Atlanta Dream in 2011 but traded to the Lynx on the same day. It would prove a good move, with the Lynx sweeping the Dream 3-0 in a best-of-three finals series.

Jarry, limited to bench minutes for the USA’s top professional women’s basketball team, got court time in games two and three of the finals.

The Australian international averaged six minutes per game in the regular season and will be looking to build on that next season.
