Safety buffers probe a no go in Parliament

A plea for the Liberal Party to support a parliamentary inquiry into safety buffers between residential developments and major hazard facilities (MHFs) has been defeated 20-18 in State Parliament.

Opposition planning spokesman Brian Tee told Parliament that Mobil, Hobsons Bay council and residents had raised concerns about plans for a high-density residential development within 300  metres of Mobil’s Point Gellibrand tank farm. Greens MP Colleen Hartland said there were 13 registered MHFs in the western suburbs.
