Melbourne based bicycle company, Velo Cycles, will be providing free mechanical workshops and tune ups for cyclists as part of The Sustainable Living Festival Big Weekend on February 14-16.
The friendly Velo team is offering free bike tune-ups throughout the festival as well as hosting complimentary classes, teaching the basics of bike mechanics such as brake release, wheel removal, tyre change and chain lubrication. Classes will take place in the Velo Mechanics Marquee located next to the Free Velo Bike Parking Station.
Velo is known for its substantial contribution towards Melbourne’s cycling culture. In October 2013, Velo Cycles, in conjunction with the Moreland City Council, installed a Bike Counter, the first of its kind in Australia and the Asia Pacific. The figures produced by the Bike Counter will assist town planners in developing better infrastructure, as well as inform the greater public on the number of cyclists using the city’s bike baths. At a cost of over $30,000 the Bike Counter was funded in partnership between Velo and the Council.
Excited to get the word out about cycling as a highly sustainable means of transport, Velo Cycles’ second store, Velo Electric & Folding will also be offering free test rides on Tern and Brompton Folding Bikes as well as Gazelle and eZee Electric bikes.
The Sustainable Living Festival aims to inspire and empower Australians to embrace sustainable living, showcasing leading solutions to the ecological and social challenges we as a country face. Attracting over 150,000 visits per year, it is Australia’s largest and oldest sustainability festival.
Bookings for the Velo Bike Mechanic Classes can be made through the Velo website and are limited to eight people per session.
