Defence site clean-up begins

Stage one remediation of the contaminated Maribyrnong Defence Site is under way and expected to be completed in December. Remediation of the rest of the site is expected to begin in mid‑2016.

 

Open forum on rail loop

The Altona Loop Group will hold a public forum on October 14 as part of its campaign for improved train services. Senior representatives from PTV and Metro will attend, while Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan has not yet acknowledged her invitation. From 7-9pm at Altona RSL Club.

 

Mental health centre opened

Mental Health Minister Martin Foley officially opened the $4.2 million redeveloped Mercy Health Ursula Frayne Centre at Western Health’s Footscray campus on Monday. The 16-bed facility provides in-patient treatment and care for adults experiencing acute mental illness.

 

Body disposal man sentenced

A Kealba man has been sentenced to a community corrections order for disposing a body of a Footscray man at Diggers Rest. Ante Bacak, 46, admitted to helping dispose the body of Kenan Balikel, whose charred remains were found in a burnt out car.
