Double trouble for Footscray Edgewater

A week is a long time in cricket, as Footscray Edgewater can attest.

The Bulldogs lost both of their Twenty20 games at the weekend to have wildly contrasting emotions from the previous weekend, when they won both their matches.

The Dogs were beaten by eight wickets on home turf by rivals Essendon on Saturday.

Bulldogs’ captain Dean Russ won the toss and batted, but his side could only manage 110 in 19.5 overs.

Guy Walker (26) and Michael Hill (25) were shining lights of the Bulldogs’ middle order, while four others made promising starts before losing their wickets in the teens.

But Matthew Doric was a wrecking ball for Essendon, taking 4-20. The Bombers coasted to victory at two down with four overs to spare.

On Sunday, Footscray Edgewater backed up for a date with Carlton at Princes Park.

But the result was no better.

Chasing Carlton’s 8-142, the Bulldogs fell short by nine runs.

This was despite English import Dan Hodgson making 52, at better than a run a ball.

Hamish Winter-Irving was superb with the ball for the Bulldogs earlier in the day, with 4-20 off four overs.

Jeremy Hart picked up 2-14, and leads the competition wicket-takers with 31, at an average of 12.42.

The Bulldogs have a two-day clash with Northcote at the Bill Lawry Oval before the Christmas break.
