Test your limits in Big Bay Swim

Swimmers can freestyle alongside some of Victoria’s best sportspeople at the coming Jalna Big Bay Swim, which winds up at Williamstown.

World champion long-distance swimmer Chloe McCardel and former AFL player Campbell Brown will take to the water with swimmers from all over Victoria for the Rotary Club of Point Gellibrand event, which has entrants racing from Port Melbourne to Williamstown on Sunday, February 28.

The annual 3.2-kilometre swim is run by volunteers from the Rotary club with support from Williamstown Swimming and Lifesaving Club to raise money for the Challenge support group and youth leadership programs run by the Les Twentyman Youth Fund.

Rotarian and start director Ross Magor says the event is known to push swimmers to their limits.

“I believe it’s our most challenging open- water swim,” he says. “It really gives swimmers the opportunity to show their long-distance prowess.

“We have lots of swim groups enter and lots of people participate year after year.”

The Big Bay Swim starts at 10am at Sandridge beach, finishing at Pelicans Landing restaurant, Williamstown.

A festival on Commonwealth Reserve will follow from noon.
