November 12, 1964

Footscray FC supporters who do not have the ready cash to purchase membership tickets next season will be able to buy them on the lay-by.

The FFC, to introduce the system in six ticket agencies, is believed to be the first club to offer the deal to supporters. Senior membership is now £3 and junior tickets cost 10/-.

Ralph Willis has tried to dismiss and ignore us, angry Williamstown Naval Dockyard workers told the Advertiser last week.

“Even our worst enemies can’t ignore us,” Carl Tullock, president of the Combined Union Shop Committee, said.

“What we have forged we intend to continue and extend.”

November 14, 1984

Williamstown boundaries are to be changed for the first time since 1887.

The Local Government Commission has recommended the retention of four new wards and a subsequent spill of the whole council at the 1985 election.

Melbourne West MLC Joan Kirner has welcomed Local Government Minister Frank Wilkes’ announcement that the resubdivision of the municipal district of the City of Williamstown had been approved by the Governor-in-Council.

The Woolworths organisation will build a major shopping centre on the Sunshine Harvester site, opposite the Sunshine Plaza, which has just opened a $7.5 million extension.

News of the Woolworths development has left the Sunshine Plaza management reeling. They fear the additional competition will further dilute retail trade already torn between several local shopping centres including Highpoint, Footscray, Altona Gate, Deer Park Central and Keilor Downs.
