Ahoy seaside lovers: 31 Beach Street, Seaholme, 3018

Watching ships cruising on the bay and city lights twinkling is all part of daily life at this waterfront dwelling. It’s also directly opposite a small beach with tidal pools, and the green expanse of WG Cresser Reserve.

Built to a high standard on the cusp of the ’80s, the house reveals architecture that was likely ahead of the times, with the main living area sited upstairs, and lots of big windows under transoms and/or clerestories to welcome in seaside light.

White paint now covers walls and brightens cedar dado panels, with natural cedar retained just enough to salute the era. Lightfittings all through are of the statement kind, Black Galaxy granite is used lavishly and ceilings variously angle and soar.

Entry is to a cavernous foyer where the eyes are drawn to a large, tiled games room ahead and the pool beyond. Opening to both side and back decks, the games room, with built-in banquette seating, neighbours a second kitchen beautifully decked out with waterfall granite benches, Miele appliances, a french-door fridge and a washing machine.

This entire area partners perfectly with the outdoor entertainment hub comprising a giant blind-sheltered timber deck under an automatic Vergola; it houses a built-in barbecue atop a granite bench.

Gardens surrounding the gas-heated pool and spa include trimmed shrubs and a stretch of synthetic turf.

The fitted main bedroom, with doors to the deck, neighbours a two-way spa bathroom, while the other two fitted bedrooms share a carpeted hallway with the second bathroom. Timber stairs rise from the foyer to the kitchen, dining area and a fab step-down lounge room. The smart, well-designed kitchen has a granite dining “table” offset from a waterfall granite bench, white 2pac cabinetry and, each with Miele tag, induction cooktop and underbench oven and convection microwave. The spacious carpeted lounge room, with gas log fire, has doors to a large deck, rimmed with tinted glass. Pier Street cafes and the station are respectively 15 and four-minute saunters away; Seaholme Primary and Altona P-9 College are both four minutes by car.
